Ministry Update

The time has flown by and the campus is preparing for another wave of new students. The way things are looking right now the dorms will be pretty packed out. The rough stats for the schools are:

Discipleship Training School (DTS) 36 students. Nearly double the students the January school had last year. An answer to prayers for sure as we are always that more students would come and be changed and challenged every year.

School of Evangelism (SOE) Roughly 20-24 students are planning to return for the second half of their training.

Also we will be running a Cross Roads DTS which is geared for Adults. This school has 13 students planning to attend.

All in all we have nearly 70 new and returning students. Please be in prayer for them. Pray that by the time they leave this campus they will be ruined for the ordinary and that they will crave Jesus every minute of every day.

The schools that just finished have just set out on the outreach portion of their training and are headed off to South Korea, Thailand, and an outreach focused on reaching our East Coast.

Thank you again
for every thing that you do that makes this all possible.

Christmas Memories

Here are some photo memories of the time I spent in the Outer Banks over Christmas this year.

On the way out we stopped and said "Hello" to Pedro.

And tried on some highly fashionable eye wear

The water was so beautiful

So you can bet I took the first opportunity available to go out on it

Jack treated me like a queen bundled me up and took us out for a sun set cruise

The rest of the week was spent enjoying friends, family, and of course Christmas cookies.

Love you all

Thank you

Thank you all so much for your Christmas prayers and giving.
I don't really have a whole lot to say, but I do want you all to know that I'm so blessed to have such a generous and loving family of Christ surrounding me even when I am far from home.

This Christmas I will be going to North Carolina and spending time with Jack's family. There will be three of us driving over Jack, myself and one of our friends who works with us here and is from the same area.  We are hoping leave today right after work around 5pm and I'm counting down the hours until we load into the car and set out on the road. It's roughly a 20 hour drive so that is something you can be praying about (safe travel, alertness, and good times just being together)

I'll try to take pictures and post them on here once I get back so that you can celebrate a little bit of Christmas with me in NC.

Love and miss you all
Thinking of you fondly

Winter has struck.

Well, I don't have anything profound to say today. I just felt like complaining to every one who has an ear to hear. The heat in my office is broken.... again.... and it's the coldest day of the year  thus far in Texas. I think it is 30 something. I wonder what kinds of looks I would get if showed up after lunch with my comforter and slippers? I'm pretty tempted.

December!!!

My apologies for my delinquency in keeping y'all updated. I can't believe I left you hanging there for almost a month.

Where to start?

Well, I spent one wonderful and far to short week at home for Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, I got in on Sunday and left the following Sunday so I didn't get to see many of you. Just know I miss you all very much and think of you often.

A good portion of my time was spent hunting for and then preparing my new car for the return trip to Texas. She is a pretty little car, a 1998 Honda Accord. Did you know that car can hold the most people of any other car? Yup, it can.. Says so in the Bible on the day of Pentecost there were over 100 believers all in one Accord.... Ha, ok that was pretty lame.
That's what I get for working in an office with a lot of the founding people of our ministry campus. As I have discovered there is a Bible joke for EVERYTHING!

What a blessing it has been for me though, to work in such close proximity to the original founders of our ministry. Besides lots of cheesy jokes I feel I've also inherited a lot of they're blessing and vision. Not that I'm suddenly a master leader, but I think where I'm at is a good place to start. To become a leader, start by serving a leader. I find myself more and more jealous of the disciples, what an awesome thing to have been able to serve for three years the greatest leader of all time!

Hope you have a great first day of December.

Lots of love

When you're in love

As I was spending time with God this morning, I read this in the book ("Crazy Love" by Francis Chan) I'm going through. I was really impacted by it so I wanted to share it with you all too..

"O God, I have tasted Thy goodness, and it has both satisfied me and made me thirsty for more. I am painfully conscious of my need for further grace. I am ashamed of my lack of desire. O God, the Triune God, I want to want Thee: I long to be filled with longing; I thirst to be made more thirsty still. Show me Thy glory, I pray Thee, so that may know Thee indeed. Begin in mercy a new work of love within me. Say to my soul, "Rise up my love, my fair one, and come away." Then give me grace to rise and follow Thee up from this misty lowland where I have wandered so long. "

I don't even know if I can make it through the rest of the chapter right now. I'm so swept away my that paragraph.... I could write more, but I'm not going to.

"Begin in mercy a new work of love within me. Say to my soul, "Rise up my love, my fair one, and come away." Then give me grace to rise and follow Thee"

What will we be?

I saw myself lying there
On a cold steal table
Exposed and bare

No spark of life left in my eyes
Just emptiness
Just emptiness

The time will come when our name will be called
It’ll be our turn to walk that hall

Young and old we’ll all breathe our last
Life is fleeting like the dieing grass

What will they say as I’m lying there?
Nice things?
Or will they care?

We all have bodies so weak on soft
Just a breath of wind and they’ll all be lost

We’ve all been told to live
Because tomorrow we might die
But we’re all so busy living
I think we’ve forgotten why

What’s behind our fleshy doors?
A heart that’s beating
Or is there more?
Or is there more?

They cut you open to see inside
No soul no life nothing to hide

You think you’re different
But when you’re dead
What’s so different?
We all have arms, legs and a head

If life is only bodies and nothing more
Then what the hell are we all living for?
There’s something more
There’s something more

I’ve read of people not afraid to die
They gave up their lives with out a final cry
What made them different
What made them brave
What made them willing to enter the grave?

All of creation took a single word
But we took more or haven’t you heard

All of creation will testify
I’m going to testify
I’m going to sing to my king most high
I’ll die so that I might live
In the life that God so freely gives
My body is just a tent
It’s not where the real me hides
I’m found in Jesus he is my joy
Clothed in a life that not even death can destroy

So what happens when you see you there
On a cold steal table exposed and bare
A silenced heart and nothing there
Just emptiness
Just emptiness
Just….. Dead.

I know some of you have already read this one on my other page, but in case you have not it is something to thing about.

WORDY THURSDAY!!

Welcome to WORDY THURSDAY!!

I thought it would be kind of fun to look up some new words on the internet.
As you might be guessing it is a severely slow day in the office
as well as a slightly unimpressive day outside the window.

Fasten your seat belts and hold on to your hats,
I dare you to try and use these words in a sentence this week.

esthete

\ES-theet\ , noun:

1.
One having or affecting great sensitivity
to beauty, as in art or nature.

Origin:
Aesthete is from Greek aisthetes
"one who perceives," from aisthanesthai, "to perceive."
"The esthete stood tall and lonely
in the nearly empty hall of the forgotten art museum.
Not only did he perceive the beauty in the art surrounding him,
but also the solitary elegance
of the lack of appreciation the museum in general received."

redolent

\RED-uh-luhnt\ , adjective:

1.
Having or exuding fragrance; scented; aromatic.

2.
Full of fragrance; odorous; smelling
(usually used with 'of' or 'with').

3.
Serving to bring to mind; evocative; suggestive;
reminiscent (usually used with 'of' or 'with').

Origin:
Redolent derives from Latin redolens,
-entis, present participle of redolere,
"to emit a scent, to diffuse an odor,
"from red-re- + olere,
"to exhale an odor."
"The guests upon entering the house
were further put at their ease
by the redolent smell of baking pie.
The tangy, spicy smell of cinnamon and apples promised
a most relaxing and delightful evening."

gaucherie

\goh-shuh-REE\ , noun:

1.
A socially awkward or tactless act.

2.
Lack of tact; boorishness; awkwardness.

Origin:
Gaucherie comes from the French, from gauche,
"lefthanded; awkward," from Old French, from gauchir
"to turn aside, to swerve, to walk clumsily."
"Here we see the insecure, unattractive woman who
at long last has found someone even more
insecure and unattractive than herself, calling attention
to her companion's gaucherie in order to feel,
for once in her life, like the belle of the ball."

I hope you enjoyed your Wordy Thursday.
I know it would sound better as Wordy Wednesday..
But I think Wednesday gets enough attention as it is.
I mean seriously you have "Wacky Wednesday"
and for goodness sake there is even a book about that.
Seriously we need to give thursday some more attention.
I'm quite certain that Thursday more often than not,
feels like the gaucherie of the week.
You don't even need to be an esthete to appreciate
the nobleness of the day before Friday.
Personally I think Thursday is a redolent day
that smells freshly of the weekend to come.

Here's to you Thursday.

May we all be coffee

I received this story in an email today. Usually I just delete forwarded things, but the lady that sent it with me really liked it and she knows how I feel about coffee so she told me I really should read it. I did, and I liked it, so I thought I would share it with you today.

Enjoy........... (By now you are probably thinking what is this girls deal with coffee. Right?)

Carrot,  Egg , Or Coffee

A young woman went to her mother and told her
 about her life and
how things were so hard for her. She did
not know how she  was going

to make it and wanted to give up. She was
tired of fighting and

struggling. It seemed as one problem was

solved, a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen. She

filled three pots with water

and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots

came to boil. In the

first she  placed carrots, in the

second she placed eggs, and in the

   last she placed  ground coffee

beans. She let them sit and boil,

   without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off

the burners. She fished the

carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She

pulled the eggs out and

placed  them in a bowl. Then she

ladled the coffee out and placed it

in a bowl.  Turning to her daughter,

she asked, "Tell me what you

   see."

   "Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she

replied.

Her mother brought  her closer and

asked her to feel the carrots.

She did and noted that they  were

soft. The mother then asked the

daughter to take an egg and break

it.  After pulling off the shell,

   she observed the hard-boiled egg.

Finally, the  mother asked the

daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter

smiled as she  tasted its rich

aroma.

The daughter then asked, "What does it

mean,  mother?"

Her mother explained that each of these

objects had faced  the same

adversity - boiling water. Each reacted

differently.

The  carrot went in strong, hard,

and unrelenting. However, after

   being subjected  to the boiling

water, it softened and became weak.

The egg had been  fragile. Its thin

outer shell had protected its

   liquid interior, but after  sitting

through the boiling water, its

   inside became hardened.

   The  ground coffee beans were

unique, however. After they were in

the boiling  water, they had changed

the water.

"Which are you?" she asked her

daughter. "When adversity knocks on

your door, how do you respond? Are you

a  carrot, an egg or a coffee

   bean?"

Think of this: Which am I? Am I  the

carrot that seems strong, but

with pain and adversity do I wilt

and  become soft and lose my strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a

malleable heart, but changes with

the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit,

but  after a death, a breakup,

   a financial

hardship or some other trial, have

I become hardened and stiff?

Does my shell look the same, but on the

inside  am I bitter and

tough with a stiff spirit and hardened

heart?

Or am I  like the coffee bean? The

bean actually changes the hot

   water, the very  circumstance that

brings the pain. When the water

gets hot, It releases the  fragrance

and flavor. If you are like the

bean, when things are at their

worst, you get better and change the

   situation around you.

May you have enough happiness to make you
sweet,
 enough  trials to
make you strong,
enough sorrow to keep
you human
and enough hope  to
 make you happy.

Purpose.

I was talking to my mom the other day being all like "I don't know what I'm doing! How is what I do affecting the world!!?" So My mom sent me this Email about a book she is reading I know it's long, but I encourage you to take the time to read it. I thought it was really good. Maybe our purpose isn't so much to "know" how and what we are supposed to do and much more are we willing to do what God tells us to do. DAILY? Morning to night, are we up to the challenge of living a Godly life at home, school, work, and where ever this crazy life takes us?

(here's what my mom sent)

"How many times have you heard someone say, "I just wish I knew God's will for my life"? I know I've longed for this before. But now i see it as a misguided way of thinking and talking.

There are very few people in the Scrxiptures who received their life plan from God in advance (or even their five-year plan, for that matter!). Consider Abraham, who was told to pack up his family and all his possessions and start walking. He didn't know where he was going. He didn't know if he would ever be back. He didn't know any of the details we consider vital (e.g., his destination, how long the venture would take, what the costs/rewards would be, whether he'd receive a 401 (k) or health insurance). God said to go and he went, and that's pretty much all he knew.

I think a lot of us need to forget about "God's will for my life." God cares more about our response to His Spirit's leading today, in this moment, than about what we intend to do next year. in fact, the decisions we make next year will be profoundly affected by the degree to which we submit to the Spirit right now, in today's decisions.

It is easy to use the phrase "God's will for my life" as an excuse for inaction or even disobedience. It's much less demanding to think about God's will for your future than it is to ask Him what He wants you to do in the next ten minutes. It's safer to commit to following Him "someday" instead of "this day."

To be honest, I believe part of the desire to "know God's will for my life" is birthed in fear and results in paralysis. We are scared to make mistakes, so we fret over figuring out God's will. We wonder what living according to His will would actually look and feel like, and we are scared to find out. We forget that we were never promised a twenty-year plan of action; instead God promises multiple times in Scripture never to leave or forsake us.

God wants us to listen to His Spirit on a daily basis, and even throughout the day, as difficult and stretching moments arise, and in the midst of the mundane. My hope is that instead of searching for "God's will for my life," each of us would learn to seek hard after "the Spirit's leading in my life today." May we learn to pray for an open and willing heart, to surrender to the Spirit's leading with that friend, child, spouse, circumstance, or decision in our lives right now.

So that's that.. I hope you read it. Loving and following God is the most difficult thing I can do. And at the same time what I was made to do. Somedays it takes all my mental strength just to love God. Maybe we focus to much on overcoming the world when we need to focus a little more on overcoming and humbling ourselves before God. It seems mundane, but there is where the battle lies, Christ's spirit in us battling against our self.

I'm rambling.. but ya that's that..

Wilted Flowers

Ready for another one of my strange analogies?
If you answered "no" to that question you might just want to stop reading right about..... now.

Part of my job here entails watering the flowers and hanging plants outside of my office. When the weather is cool and not to humid I can get away with not watering them for a couple of days, and even then only using water to rehydrate them. To be completely honest, I've had to have a few people kindly remind me to water the poor things.

The last few days, however, our office has been preparing for some very important people who will be coming this weekend. I decided that I wanted to make the flowers look the best they can so, not only have I been watering them more consistently, I've taken the time to add some plant food.

Lo and behold, today on returning from lunch, I look and see a large crushed spot on the pot of flowers nearest the door. Like something fell on them.  Not only that but the weather has been unnaturally humid causing them to look wilted and sick and sad.

Some how by brain jumped from wilted flowers to spiritual life.
How many times do I find my self when the weather is good pulling away from God a bit? Not in a rebellious way, just things are going well and I don't feel desperate for Him. I'm getting a little dry, but hey, I'm still blooming. Right? I'll have my devotions, but not throw my self at His feet desperate to be filled with Him. Just enough water to stay alive, but not enough fertilizer to really bloom to my full potential. Finding myself content with good enough.

Then something happens. Maybe a good thing, a wonderful reminder that He is the Bride Groom and He is coming back, and so you start preparing yourself. You don't just want to be a bare stock when He comes back, you want to be more than just hanging on. Doesn't it always seem like when you finally come to that decision the weather changes, and now instead of just coasting you actually have to hang on more than you ever did before. Things happen that are just our of your control like falling objects that crush your spirits, make you feel like even your best efforts aren't going to be good enough.

I don't really know how that applies in your life, but I know for me I can choose to just get by slide by day by day without any real effort. It so often feels like whenever I decide to go after God beyond what is easy that bad things happen, or trails spring out of no where, things I can't control throwing up opposition every way I turn. It's in those moments when your looking down at the wilted flowers in your hand that you have to decide to just press in that much more. You know that you were created to be more than ok, you were created to be beautiful. You know that in your heart and that's all you really have to hang onto, but you hang on to that because you were created for more.
